The brief

A portfolio app for clients of a discretionary wealth manager. No tickers, no confetti, no red-and-green pulse. Just an honest picture of a balance sheet and a direct line to the person managing it.

Consumer investing apps are engineered for engagement: bright greens, live tickers, push notifications on every move. That design language is actively wrong for someone with a multi-decade mandate, where the correct behaviour is usually to do nothing.

The brief was an interface whose entire tone says "this is handled": one that a client opens monthly rather than hourly, and closes reassured.

Design decisions

Three choices that shaped everything else.

(01)

Serif figures, sans interface

Every monetary figure is set in a serif at a generous size; all interface furniture stays in a neutral sans. It borrows the typographic convention of a printed statement, which is where this audience's trust already lives.

(02)

Light, not dark

The category defaults to dark interfaces for a sense of premium. Here that reads as trading-desk urgency. A warm off-white paper tone sets a calmer register and makes the single deep green feel like an ink colour rather than a profit-and-loss signal.

(03)

The advisor is a first-class object

The human managing the money gets a solid green card, the only fully saturated surface in the app. In a discretionary relationship the person is the product, so the interface treats them as the most important element on the screen.

Screens

Every screen shown is live interface code, not a flat image.
