The brief
A booking app for remote cabins, lodges, and desert camps. The interface gets out of the way and lets the imagery do the persuading, then makes the actual booking take four taps.
Travel apps are the most image-dependent products there are, and most of them bury the imagery under search chrome, filter bars, badges, and urgency banners. By the time a photo is on screen it is competing with nine other elements for the same attention.
The brief was an app for a small collection of remote properties where every screen leads with the place itself, and where the booking flow is short enough that the decision is emotional rather than administrative.
Design decisions
Three choices that shaped everything else.
(01)
Imagery first, chrome second
The discover screen opens with a full-bleed image running behind the status bar, with a gradient scrim carrying the type. There is no search field above the fold. Search is a tab, because someone browsing remote cabins is being inspired rather than looking something up.
(02)
Illustrated scenes as a brand decision
Rather than stock photography, the collection is rendered as commissioned scene art with a consistent palette and grain. It means every listing sits in the same visual world regardless of who shot it, which is the problem stock imagery creates for small marketplaces.
(03)
The sheet overlaps the image
On the stay screen the content sheet sits five pixels over the photograph with a 20px radius. That overlap is what makes the image feel like it continues behind the content rather than stopping at a hard edge, and it is the single detail that separates a considered travel app from a template.
Screens
Every screen shown is live interface code, not a flat image.

The content sheet overlaps the image by five pixels, so the photograph reads as continuing behind it.

- →Every image carries a top and bottom gradient scrim, so overlaid type stays legible whatever the photograph does
- →Place names set in Instrument Serif; all interface furniture in a neutral sans, so content and chrome never compete
- →One clay accent (#e2673c) pulled from the imagery itself rather than chosen against it
- →Circular controls over photography use a 45% black fill plus backdrop blur, never a solid chip
- →Scene art shares one grain pass and one vignette, which is what makes a mixed gallery feel shot by one person
