The brief
Identity and site for a wood-fired neighbourhood restaurant, with reservations built in. Every decision points at the same feeling: quiet, warm, and confident enough to say very little.
Most independent restaurant sites are a photo carousel, a PDF menu, and a third-party booking widget in a completely different typeface. The result reads as three businesses stapled together.
The brief was one continuous piece of design language, from the wordmark through to the confirmation screen, with reservations native to the page rather than bolted on.
Design decisions
Three choices that shaped everything else.
(01)
Print logic, not web logic
The menu is set like a printed card: serif at a generous size, dotted leaders running to the price, courses separated by air rather than rules. Nothing about it looks like a web list, because a web list is not how anyone reads a menu.
(02)
Photography as a stack, not a carousel
Images sit as a lightly rotated stack, echoing a pile of prints on a pass. It communicates "more inside" without the autoplay motion that makes hospitality sites feel like advertising.
(03)
Booking in the same voice
The reservation step keeps the serif figures, the terracotta ink, and the letterspaced labels. Unavailable times are struck through rather than hidden, so the page answers "is this place popular?" honestly and immediately.
Screens
Every screen shown is live interface code, not a flat image.

- →Cream (#f7f1e6) rather than white; on a phone outdoors it holds warmth where white blows out
- →All caps body copy at 9px with 0.13em tracking and 1.9 line-height, used only in short terracotta passages
- →A drawn line-art mark instead of a photograph in the intro column, so the page has one human gesture
- →Film grain at 16% overlay on every image, unifying photography shot on different days
